where was this during anne hathahate gate, an artist renowned for her dedication to technical excellence and subsequently criticised for her supposed inauthenticity .... a most wonderful read, you're a light.
i barely read anything here but this was outstanding and extremely relatable - felt very aligned with my thought patterns; your grain left me jealous and inspired 🩵🌐
roro, you took my breath away several times while i read this. the number of times you made me say "WOW" out loud is more than my hands can count
you are so gifted a writer that i'm laughing as i write this comment. i'm laughing at how amazingly you write
this is a piece i will think about for a long time. wow....... the number of times i've said "oh my *god*" out loud in the last 60 seconds is hilarious. this was magnificent and so are you
goodness gracious what a piece
i can say without a doubt that i felt that honesty in this piece. that quality without a name. that *trueness*. that grain.
roro! god, there are so many gems here, i can’t quite decide what to comment on, but i’ve missed your writing and am so glad you’re back. hell of a return you’ve made.
i haveee noticed that you haven't written in a long time, and I was so so happy to see this. I actually just cleared out my substack subscription, inbox FILLED with cultural crit thinkpieces that I subscribed to however many years ago that are just tedious to me now. But finding your writing was such a breath of air. Its so hard for me to connect to reading things recreationally as a grad student now, but I'm so grateful for all your reflections. Beautiful writing as always, I'm ever inspired to start writing notes private to myself. Thank you!!! for however much hair you may have ripped out to write this, i needed it.
